WIRELESS NETWORKING

WLANS is the wireless lan network. It is the new wireless form of networking where there is no physical connection between computers and other associated devices, neither they are attached using wired media.It is now the most common and most widely used system networking. Messages are transferred through optical signalling, infrared, radio transmissions, use of satellites. The use of such a networking is restricted to small areas. It works in area where cabling is not possible or where possible is very costly.

AFTER LAN MAN WAN , WIRELESS NETWORKING CAN BE REFERRED TO AS THE FOURTH TYPE OF COMPUTER NETWORK. 

The LAN that was talked about in the last post includes LAN TOPOLOGIES listed as follows:

CLASSIFICATION OF NETWORKS - area based

THE VARIOUS TYPES OF COMPUTER NETWORKS

The networks can be classified into

1. LAN(local area network)
2. MAN(metropolitan area network)
3. WAN(wireless area network)

Local area network is in a limited area. it consists of group of computers and other devices that are connected by a communication link.

• The geographical area is only 10 to 100 km.
• Each user enjoys total computing facility.
• The data transfer rate is between 10 to 100 mbps.
• It is easy to manage since the area is small.
• Error rate is low since distance is less. Hence there is no problem of corrupted signals.

Metropolitan area network is bigger than LAN. But smaller than WAN.

• It can carry data and images at upto 200 mbps or faster .
• It can cover distance upto 75 km.
• It is connected within the same city to form a city network.

Wide area network is a single large network composed of many lans. Wans can be of two types a)public network. b)private network.

• The communication channels are provided by a third party.
• Communication channels are prone to various types of errors.
• A very wide geographical area is covered. Such as country, continent.

THEN NETWORK - Are the systems designed to convey information from the point of origin to the destination.

THE 5 BASIC ELEMENTS WHICH WERE TALKED ABOUT IN THE LAST POST ARE LISTED BELOW IN DETAIL:

1. A SOURCE COMPUTER transmits data . this data can be in the form of file on disk or entered via keyboard.
2. A COMMUNICATION DEVICE CONNECTED TO SOURCE COMPUTER converts data in the form in which it can be transferred.
3. A COMMUNICATION CHANNEL transmits data from one computer to another.
4. A COMMUNICATION DEVICE CONNECTED TO RECEIVING COMPUTER converts the data in the form in which it can be read by the receiving computer.
5. A RECEIVING COMPUTER receives information and displays it on the screen or prints it and stores it.

WONDERING WHAT IS A COMPUTER NETWORK!!

A compter network is a group of computers and associated devices connected by communication facilities. It can be as small as LAN or as big as WAN. It involves 5 basic elements which can be arranged in a manner best suited to communicate.These elements are :

1. A Source Computer
2. A Communication Device-connected to source computer.
3. A Communication Channel
4. A Communication Device-connected to receiving computer.
5. A Receiving Computer
